London, UK, 2nd September 2010 – Toshiba UK today announced the launch of the stunning REGZA VL Series – a premium range of Full HD LED TVs combining first-class performance, internet connectivity and an outstanding, ultra slim design.
Available in 102cm (40”) and 117cm (46”) screen sizes, the new REGZA VL series blends premium technologies with a unique and modern design. Both models offer Full HD support and 100Hz picture processing, Wi-Fi compatibility and applications for both YouTube™ and BBC iPlayer, while a new elegant exterior provides undeniable style to match the advanced performance.
Japanese technology meets Danish design
Designed in collaboration with Danish designer’s JACOB JENSEN DESIGN, the REGZA VL series features a completely revised appearance from any REGZA range launched before it. Manufactured using complementary and visually striking elements, each REGZA VL series model boasts a unique look based on the principle of clean lines and the use of high quality materials, including glass and metal.
Our thinnest LED to date at just 2.89cm thick from front to back, a sleek frame-free front surface combines a gloss black finish with a subtle silver trim around the outer edge. A backlit touch control panel is also positioned at the front of the surface to offer advanced functionality, while a striking stand features sharp and angled edges that make each model appear as if freestanding, independent of the foot stand. The rear design has also been revised, with an emphasis on easily reachable connections and a wall-mounting mechanism that is as compact as possible.
Premium specification also provides outstanding performance to match the striking exterior. Each features a full 1920x1080p panel with LED Edge backlighting, delivering high definition detail, vibrant colours and excellent contrast. Both models also feature Toshiba’s Active Vision M100HD picture processing technology, which enhances colour, contrast and movement, offering a refresh rate of 100Hz to ensure that fast-moving sports and movie action is smoothly reproduced.
Both models in the REGZA VL series also feature an integrated DVB-T2 tuner as standard, providing compatibility with terrestrial HD broadcasts. Enabling users to access Freeview HD programmes with no external set-top box, the REGZA VL series provides instant free-to-air high definition content.
Flexible connectivity, with online video access
The REGZA VL series offers a range of connections that offer enhanced flexibility and expands the content that users can access. Each model offers four HDMI® inputs and two USB inputs supporting JPEG, MP3 & DivX HD playback, while Ethernet connectivity allows users to access internet-hosted content.
The latest programmes on BBC iPlayer can be accessed by wirelessly connecting any of the REGZA WL series models to the internet. An intuitive user interface designed for TV use makes it simple to browse and select content, allowing the whole family to access their favourite BBC programmes on demand – including selected broadcasts in HD – and in big-screen comfort, without having to leave the sofa.
Access to YouTube™ is also provided by an application custom-designed for TV use, allowing users to search content easily using just a remote control. The intuitive interface makes it easy for viewers to quickly find videos, with users also able to switch back to the traditional view if they wish to search using a keyboard and mouse.
Owners of REGZA VL series TVs will also be able to connect to their home network, allowing instant sharing of digital content between Windows 7 certified devices. Music, video and images can be easily sent from laptops and media servers to VL series TVs using the Toshiba Media Controller, which features a drag-and-drop interface that makes it easier than ever to stream content to other PCs and compatible AV devices within a home network.
For viewers who want to go wireless, an optional USB dongle also enables users to connect their REGZA VL series to their modem wirelessly.
First-class images, first-class audio
The REGZA VL series also offers users rich, immersive audio, thanks to Dolby Volume and Toshiba SoundNavi technology. Dolby Volume keeps volume levels consistent across any channel or audio source, regardless of content, while SoundNavi provides even stronger sound projection, enabling users to optimize the integrated speakers for when the set is wall mounted.
The REGZA VL series is available from October 2010.
